      <image:title>About Me</image:title>
<image:caption>I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2006 in Bristol and started working in the NHS with people who struggle with a variety of issues with their muscles, joints and nerves in all parts of their body. Since 2012 I have specialised in the lower limb and have a mixed caseload of sporting injuries right through to age related degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis. Whoever I am treating my passion is seeing people get back to their individual aims and goals. I would say my approach to physiotherapy is straight forward. I think simple, honest advice is key and my bias would always be towards helping someone self-manage their condition through education, advice and exercise rather than offering lots of treatments that have a lower evidence base. I have a special interest in sports, with many years of experience diagnosing and treating sporting injuries. I have played a variety of different sports myself, including football, basketball and golf and currently am involved in junior football coaching at grass roots level.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Knee injury</image:title>
<image:caption>The vast majority of knee pain does settle with time after an injury or operation and even if you have a degenerative condition pain levels at times can be very comfortable however it is normal for your knee to flare up from time to time. Managing these flare ups is key and this guide is devised to help you with this. If you are experiencing consistent pain that is difficult to manage, especially at night and your knee feels unstable after a recent injury with associated locking and loss of movement you may need some help.</image:caption>

<image:caption>How Greenwood Physio can help Some ankle sprains can cause persistent pain and instability making a return to sport or day to day life really difficult. A thorough assessment of your ankle can determine what grade of ligament tear you have sustained. I will also look carefully at the range of movement, strength and control your ankle has after your injury. We will plan a progressive ankle strengthening and balance re-training programme to help you achieve your aims and goals. If this is to return to your sport we will need to get the ankle used to the individual demands of your chosen sport. This may involve high level jumping and hopping drills called plyometrics which will building strength and power in your legs. When appropriate I will use a well researched functional testing procedure to ensure a timely and safe return to sport.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Knee Ligament injury</image:title>
<image:caption>How severe is my knee ligament sprain? If you have recently had a twisting knee injury followed by pain, swelling and a loss of movement then it is quite likely you may have injured the major structures in the knee such as the ligaments, articular cartilage or meniscus. In this case it is important to have a healthcare professional who has a special interest in the lower limb to assess the knee to see if you need a MRI scan or even surgery. An knee ligament sprain can cause the soft tissues that surround the knee joint to overstretch. The soft tissues that can be stretched are called ligaments, these are tough bands of tissue which connect the femur to the tibia. These ligaments alongside muscles can help provide some stability and support to the knee joint. When knee sprains cause an injury to the ligaments we often classify them into different grades of tear. Grade 1 - tear to the ligament but no laxity Grade 2 - tear to the ligament with laxity Grade 3 - complete rupture of the ligament</image:caption>

      <image:title>Plantar Fasciitis 2</image:title>
<image:caption>Overload or a sudden increase in activity. Activities that involve repetitive stress on the foot, such as running, jumping, or standing for prolonged periods, can load the plantar fascia and cause discomfort. Foot mechanics, such as high arches (pes cavus) or flat feet (pes planus), can increase the stress on the plantar fascia, making it more prone to injury. These conditions can result in improper distribution of weight and altered foot alignment during walking or running. Tight muscles. Tightness in the calf muscles can limit ankle mobility and increase the strain on the plantar fascia. The Achilles tendon blends into the plantar fascia so if it is tight it places greater stress on the fascia. High BMI. Excess weight places additional stress on the feet, including the plantar fascia, increasing the risk of developing plantar fasciitis. Age and gender: Plantar fasciitis commonly occurs between the ages of 40 and 60. Women are more likely to experience the condition, possibly due to hormonal factors which we are currently learning much more about recently. Occupational factors: some occupations that involve prolonged periods of standing or walking on hard surfaces.</image:caption>
